Today I started reading Lord of The Flies by William Golding. I began the first chapter. In the beginning of the book, their plane crashes on an island. They first believe that they are the only ones alive, they being Ralph and Piggy.

In the end of chapter 6 of catcher in the Rye, Holden gets in a fight with Stradlater. He doeesn’t want to stay in his room ,so he goes to Ackley’s room and spends some time there. He comes up with this big plan that he will pack all of his things and go to New york and spend some time there.

At the moment, I am reading a book by George Parks, on of the most well known, finest drum majors in history. The book is “The Dynamic Drum Major”. It is a instructional book about how to act as a drum major, and just overall drum major protocal. I am auditioning for the Greenup County High School drum major position. Our existing drum major, Josh Tracy, is graduating and I am auditioning to be the drum major next year. Reading this book is just one thing that I hope will help in getting the position.

The Catcher In The Rye is actually a pretty interesting book. When I first started reading it, I figured that it would be very boring, but I found out that it isn’t. Where I am in the book, Holden is about to leave that dreaded school that he hates, Pencey. But when he is preparing to leave, he realizes that he actually wants to stay. It seems to me that he is starting to feel bad about leaving, I think that he will abtually miss the schools.

This book is a very interesting book. Chapter one of this book gives an introduction to Holden Caufield, the main character. We learn that Holden attends a private, boys school, called Pency Preparatory School. We also find out that he is being sent home because he is failing four out of five of his subjects. The only one he is passing is English, because he had that English class at his previous school he attended, which he also got kicked out of.
Holden says that he would tell us about his life, but he did not grow up in a good home.
At the end of chapter one, he is going to see his history teacher named Mr. Spencer. In the beginning of chapter two, he arrives at Mr. Spencer’s house, and is wanting to say goodbye to him, before he goes home. Mr. Spencer is a nice man, if you do good for him. He is not mean to Holden, he just wants to let him know that he needs to buckle down if he wants to go anywhere with his life.
Mr. Spencer shows Holden his history exam, which he failed. For his essay he is supposed to write about the Egyptians, but he can’t think of anything to write, so he writes Mr. Spencer a message at the bottom of his paper, telling him that he would be okay if he failed him. Holden says that he just wrote that to make Mr. Spencer feel better about failing him.

Writing Prompt 9-04-07

The main one I want to write about is “An eye for an eye…”. I definently do not believe in an eye for an eye. If you pluck someones eye out for plucking out someone elses, the whole world would be blind. Or if you kill someone for killing someone else, there would be no humans. The bible says this is wrong.
Next, I want to talk about “Killing is wrong.” For this subject I am on the fence. I do believe that killing is wrong. But, I also believe in self-defense. Technically, i do believe that you should not kill, because it is one of the ten commandments, if you are a christian, you should follow this rule. Self-defense can usually be done without killing someone, but in some cases it is necessary. Under this circumstance, i do not know what to do. But in the case of just killing for some unknown, or stupid reason, I don’t agree with it. Like i said, sometimes you are in the case of kill or be killed, in which i would probably kill.
This assignment was a very interesting assignment, because i had never thought of most of those subjects. Now i can say that i have an opinion on them. I enjoyed it very much, and hope to incorporate it with my “This I Believe”.

Writing Prompt 8-31-07

“Did You Know” shows very realistically a scary future for America. It shows us, as students, that we really need to step up to the plate for us to be the best country in the world. China is beating us badly. They have more honors students in school, than we have students.
It also shows me that students really need to learn how to use the technology now, because when we are adults, even more complicated technology than what we have now will be needed. Technological advances are happening everyday. If they keep moving at such a fast pace, in 2013 there will be a computer that will be like the human mind. In 2049, there will be a $1,000 computer smarter than the human species. Technology is a must in the times that are in the future.
It also shows me that more and more people are being born each day. With all of these new people, the demand for more jobs will be higher, because we will have more people to attend for. With these jobs will once again come technology. If you really think about it, the future of the world, not just america, lies in the technology that is being created now, and actually, most of the technology we will use in the future hasn’t even been created yet.
The future of American students is actually scary, because we have so much to go up against. We are going to be the ones up against the Chinese that know English better than we do. It is scary that a foreign country knows our language better than we do.

Journal Prompt 1 8-30-07

The topic I had most problemtatic was number 3. Even though I know what a hero is to me, I don’t exactly know how to describe it. It was hard to describe an example of a hero to me, because there are so many. Like I said, a hero to me is just someone that inspires someone to do something.
The easiest one for me to write was number 2. The thing that I want to improve on t he most is my general nature. I just want to be a better person all around.
The one I am doing my “This I Believe” on is number 4. I believe in equality. Even if you have never talked to the person, you should treat them exactly how you would treat your best friend.
